General characteristics: Light brown to rich olive green with irregular blotches and spots. Adults usually have large regularly-shaped olive green blotches on the back and sometimes have a yellow, red or orange mid-dorsal stripe. They grow up to 5 cm long. Adults are most often associated with wet areas, flood plains, and semi-permanent water in habitats ranging from open forests and woodlands through shrub lands and grass lands including open and disturbed areas. Often common on farms and in dams throughout farms. Their eggs and tadpoles can be found in still water within dams, lakes, swamps, stream side ponds and flooded grasslands. There are usually 80 to 1500 pigmented eggs contained within a floating foam mass measuring between 50 and 80mm in diameter. The tadpoles are olive grey, dark grey, or black, and the fins are usually semi-transparent or light grey.
Diet: Insects other arthropods and some small snakes.
Habitat: Dry interior to the wet coast, but avoids sandstone areas. Often found in marshy areas, flooded grasslands, streams and ponds with grassy edges.
