The Macarthur Herpetological Society was formed in 1999, by a group of enthusiastic reptile keepers, who saw a need to share their knowledge and experiences with other keepers throughout the Macarthur region. At the time, the reptile-keeping hobby was only just beginning to flourish, and it was difficult to source out local keepers and breeders with whom to share information with.

This is the definitive guide to the frogs of Australia, providing descriptions, distributions, images, breeding calls, and more for every frog in Australia. That's the plan, anyway (and we're well on the way).

The ARC was established as a centre dedicated to research and conservation of Australia's unique frogs. The ARC is self funding and provides for its valuable work through sales and sponsorships.
We supply pet frogs and tadpoles bred at the ARC, as well as enclosures, food, information, materials, and resources that are needed by those wanting to keep pet frogs. We also stock frog books, tapes, posters, and other frog-related items. Our school visits and the supply of tadpoles for classrooms assist our work at the same time as educating and encouraging responsible attitudes towards wildlife. The Centre is also involved in efforts to breed and preserve a number of Australia's most endangered frogs, and is a base for the operations of the Victorian Frog Group.

The Cairns Frog Hospital is the country's only dedicated frog rescue and disease surveillance facility. Frog rescue is one of many tools used by the FDR Project, Inc. to conserve and try to reverse the decline of frogs. Education, surveys, captive breeding (eventually) and effecting policy change are some others our group does.
The Cairns Frog Hospital has already uncovered the existence of four new disease problems in QLD frogs and with better support, will be able to start identifying where else besides FNQ these diseases are active.
