General Characteristics: All marine turtles come ashore to lay their eggs in a hole dug by the female above the high - water mark on a beach. Once she lays the eggs, she fills in the hole with sand and the eggs are left to incubate. Depending on the species, females will lay several clutches of eggs in a season over a period of weeks. The young of a clutch emerge from their eggs simultaneously and move in a group towards the surface.
