General characteristics: Non-Venomous Children's Pythons are the second smallest python species in the world, only the Anthill Python is a few inches shorter. They grow between 50 cm - 1.5 metres in length. Dorsal coloration varies through all shades of brown, with dark brown to black variegated markings. Ventral surface is white to cream. The head is distinct from the neck. This is a nocturnal species. They mate from May to August and females lay 4 - 9 parchment shelled eggs from September to December and coil around them to incubate and protect them until they hatch 2 - 4 months later. Newly hatched young may measure about 25 cm long.
Diet: Bats, frogs, lizards especially geckos, birds, small mammals and rodents.
Habitat: Found over much of Australia and are often associated with rock outcrops and caves where they are very adept at catching bats.
