The other thing I do is look after people's homes for them when they go away on holiday. I don't have a home of my own. I sold it back in 1998 and became a fulltime housesitter. I'm always on the move. In fact, I change houses about once every six weeks.
As a writer, I can live and work anywhere in the world, so housesitting is perfect for me. Also, I'm a hermit — I like being on my own. The best service I offer as a housesitter is the fact that I'm almost always at home — I don't go out to work.
I don't charge for housesitting. I do it in exchange for free rent. I'm registered with the Australian Directory of Housesitters, but most of my housesits come from having one client recommend me to another. I'm a vegetarian, I don't smoke, I'm happy to care for small furry animals, and I have great references!
