BORN:
10th January 1950 in Newcastle, Australia
STARTED WRITING:
In 1977 after a campervan tour of Australia with my husband Roger and my daughter Josie. While travelling, we couldn't carry a lot of books, so instead of reading bed-time stories to Josie I started making up stories for her. I didn't know I could make up stories until then. When we came home from our travels, I started writing my stories down. And that was it! I knew straight away I wanted to be a writer! I've been writing ever since.
OTHER JOBS I'VE HAD:
I didn't start writing until I was 27. Before that, I tried a lot of different jobs. For a while I was a waitress, a cook, even a restaurant manager. I tried stock controlling (which meant crawling around the cellars of hotels counting bottles of booze). My last job before taking up writing was as an offset printer. I used to print posters, stationary and even books. Several years after I became a writer, I started teaching writing in schools. I still teach writing today, but only to adults.
