A CELLAR DOOR WITH MORE
Monahan Estate's cellar door outlet on Wilderness Road, Rothbury, has been open for business for more than four years now.
The official opening in 2002 was timed to coincide with the centenary of the adjacent Gillies Bridge, after which our wines are named.
The outlet has proved more popular than we had imagined and we are now open from Wednesday until Sunday (inclusive) from 10am to 5pm. However, if you happen to be cruising down Wilderness Road on a Monday or Tuesday then pop in. The chances are we'll be open or close by and can provide a tasting of our premium wines.
(Prior booking required for parties of 10 or more.)

HOW TO GET TO OUR CELLAR DOOR

Click here or on the thumbnail above for a map showing how to get to Monahan Estate
If coming from Sydney, take the Cessnock turnoff heading north along the expressway. Once in Cessnock (Vincent Street is the main street), take the road leading to Branxton and keep heading north past the airport and the Broke Rd turnoff. Around 10.5km from town there'll be a sharp left-hand bend and you will head up a small rise. At the top of the rise turn right into Wilderness Road. Follow it for 2.2km, then cross the old bridge. Monahan Estate is on the right-hand side immediately after the bridge.
Alternatively, you can drive up Lovedale Rd. Continue as before from Cessnock, but turn right into Lovedale Rd 5.5km from Cessnock just past the airport. Continue along Lovedale Rd for 8.1km then turn left into Wilderness Rd. Monahan Estate is 3.3km along this road on the left-hand side immediately before the old bridge.
FROM NEWCASTLE: Drive through Maitland and Rutherford until you reach Lochinvar (watch for the permanent speed camera just inside the initial 60km/h limit). Drive through town heading toward Greta for around 2km, then turn left into Allendale/Lovedale Road just after the overtaking lane begins. Follow Lovedale Road for about 4 or 5km. When you see the intersection with Camp Road (which heads to Greta) follow the road around the sharp left-hand bend and for another 1km then look for the east end of Wilderness Road on the right (it's hard to spot because it's on a slight rise). Turn right into Wilderness Rd and Monahan Estate is 3.3km along this road on the left-hand side immediately before the old bridge.
FROM MUSWELLBROOK AND PARTS NORTH: Continue along the New England Highway through Singleton until you arrive at Branxton. Turn right at the traffic lights to head towards Cessnock. Look for Wilderness Road on your left after about 11km. Turn left into Wilderness Road and follow it for 2.2km. Monahan Estate is on the right-hand side immediately after the bridge.
