This video provides an overview of the pathway to dialysis independence for new patients. It has been produced to reassure patients and show how support can be given to individuals faced with the difficult decisions surrounding the beginning of dialysis.
Patients who have experienced the process of beginning dialysis and their partners are interviewed regarding how they have coped with the renal program and the confidence that pre-dialysis preparation has given them. The pre-dialysis program is outlined consisting of assessment, education and treatment.
While patients with ESRD face an uncertain future with many life changes to contemplate, this program reinforces that people who have commenced dialysis have managed to regain much of the independence they previously enjoyed.
