An organisation of patients and supporters dedicated to improving the lifestyle of those suffering from renal failure and renal disease in the region.
Objectives of the Association
To provide for the welfare of all individuals suffering renal failure in the Hunter Valley and Northern areas of New South Wales and thereby:
To promote a program of self help
To provide physical and financial assistance to all individual sufferers in need
To bring financial aid to their dependents
To provide holiday, recreational and all other such facilities for the benefit of patients and their dependents
To provide financial assistance to the John Hunter Hospital and Wansey Dialysis Centre, for the purpose of extending and improving the facilities of the Department of Nephrology
To promote education of renal patients and the public in general aspects of renal disease and renal failure
Membership of the Association
Membership is available to patients involved with the Department of Nephrology through the Renal Unit, Centre Dialysis and the Wansey Dialysis Centre or to any person interested in assisting the association to achieve its goals.
Activities of the Association
The main activities of the association are related to fund raising projects such as: sporting charity days, raffles, fetes and social evenings.
The patient education program supported by the association is conducted at the Hunter Renal Resource Centre located at the Wansey Dialysis Centre, Charlestown. Regular education seminars for renal patients are planned and conducted by the Hunter Renal Resource Centre Committee, which has representation from HANKA.
Association Meetings
Monthly meetings of the association are held at the Wansey Dialysis Centre, Charlestown on the second Tuesday of each month excepting January unless advised otherwise, commencing at 7pm. The duration of the meeting is approximately 1 hour followed by a light supper.
Association Newsletter
A newsletter is produced quarterly and sent to each member's registered address.
