Glenguin
Estate
Broke - Fordwich
Glenguin was established in 1993 when Robin
Tedder and family purchased the established "Old Broke Block"
planted to Semillon and in the following years planted the "River
Terrace" vineyard to Chardonnay and the "School House Block"
to Shiraz.
Robin became the 12th Master of Wine in Australia
in 1999 when he passed the rigorous exams set by the UK based Institute
of Masters of Wine.
Glenguin takes its name from Robin's grandfather
Arthur who was made Lord Tedder, Baron of Glenguin, in recognition of
his wartime services as Supreme Air Commander in WWII. Robin is the current
Baron of Glenguin. Glenguin produces estate grown wines, certainly the
best from the Broke - Fordwich region.
Meerea Park
Pokolbin
Meerea
Park, while producing premium wines for only a short period of time, can
trace its origins to the establishment of the wine industry in Australia's
oldest wine region, the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
In 1826, the Eather family was granted a 1000-acre parcel of land at Bulga,
22km west of Singleton. The property was named 'Meerea' meaning "beautiful
mountain" in the local aboriginal dialect. In 1989, after an absence
since the 1860's, wine grapes were once again established on Meerea. The
Meerea Park label was first released in 1991 with 355 dozen of a barrel
fermented Chardonnay.
During the mid 1800's, another family member,
Alexander Munro was establishing what was at one stage the largest and
most successful winery in New South Wales, "Bebeah'. Munro during
his winemaking career up until 1890 won in excess of 2000 medals, cups
and awards from all over the world. Victories included the Paris Cup in
1878 and a Gold medal at the 1882 Bordeaux International Exhibition of
Wines.
The Eather family and Great Great Grandson,
winemaker, Rhys Eather are endeavouring to emulate the success of Munro
having already won 2 Trophies and over 175 show medals since 1991. The
influence of Munro can be seen on the traditional Meerea Park label as
it bears the image of the ornate fountain that Munro gave to Singleton,
as a gift upon retiring, as it's first Mayor. The fountain today takes
pride of place in Burdekin Park, Singleton. Meerea was in family ownership
continuously until 1995 when with the retirement of Ian Eather, the property
was sold.
Molines et Fils
Rothbury
Molines et Fils (Molines and sons) was born when Sally Molines
a keen equestrian, donated one of her paddocks to husband Robert for the
purpose of establishing his dream, a Chardonnay vineyard.
Robert is better known for his culinary talent
at Robert's Restaurant in Pokolbin. Chardonnay is the only variety grown
with the winemaking entrusted to Iain Riggs at Brokenwood, who makes
this wonderful barrel fermented style.
Chateau Pato
Pokolbin
Since founder, David Paterson's death, his wife
Helen and sons Roger, Nick and Michael, have carried on the Chateau Pato
legend.
Shiraz is produced in limited quantities each
year from 20+ year-old vines, which are now mature and producing exceptional
fruit. Nick Paterson is presiding over the winemaking duties in his spare
time as well as working for well known Hunter companies, formerly Brokenwood and
Tyrrell's, Wandin Valley and now as a consultant.
