Another former rail
link formed NCM's No. 2 priority for major cycling links in the area. It was
the former steam tram link between Wallsend and Glendale. It's gentle gradient
makes the climb between the two suburbs much easier and safer than the current
alternate route along Lake Road. This now enables cyclists to travel
significant off road distances between Glendale and Newcastle. It provides safe
access to Glendale TAFE as well as the Newcastle University Callaghan campus.
It is proposed that this cycleway will link up with the Foreshore Cycleway
around the northern end of Lake Macquarie to increase the areas able to link
these important destinations in a safe manner for all cyclists.
