Ride Grading Codes

Degree of Difficulty Grades
1 For any healthy person - little cycling experience necessary - distances up to 25 km with gentle pace/terrain
2 For any healthy person with competence using geared bikes - distances 20 - 40 km with gentle short hills
3 For fit teenager and healthy adult cyclists with geared bikes - distances up to 50 km and/or rolling hills
4 For fit teenager and athletic adult cyclists with geared bikes - distances up to 100 km and/or steeper hills
5 For experienced cyclists with above average ability - distances over 100 km and/or difficult terrain

Regular Rides

Saturday Morning Fernleigh and Foreshore Ride (Join the ride anywhere on the route)
Contact: Leigh  49297859.   Distance 40kms   Average speed 20-22kph            
Start at
7.00am from the No 2 Sportsground entrance opposite the RTA in Parry St Newcastle West.  Coastal Cycleway to start of Fernleigh Track (7.20am). Burwood  Rd crossing (7.30am) Whitebridge (7.35am) end of track at Redhead (7.45am) Whitebridge (8.00am) Adamstown Rail crossing (8.15am) Energy Australia stadium (8.20am) start of Throsby Cycleway (8.30am) Nobbys Breakwall (8.55am). Breakfast at Juicy Beans, Wheeler Place with other NCM riders at around 9am.  To ensure that you get to the coffee shop on time it is important to keep to the timetable above.  If you are late you can join the ride on the return journey.

Every Saturday Morning: “Cobweb Ride”
Grade:
EFX; Distance 40km;    Contact

Starts: 7.30 am Hunter St Newcastle (nr Wood St – opposite old Store building). Regular routes on road-highway. Breakfast at end.

Every Saturday Morning: "Saturday Social Saunter"
Grade: ESP; Distance: ~ one hour; Contact: Don 4944 7869. Average speed 15-20kph.
Starts at 8:00 am from Stewart Ave Railway Crossing, Newcastle West. Easy ride, suitable for beginners/new members. An excellent opportunity to start/get back to cycling and meet some new people. Followed by breakfast at Juicy Beans in Wheeler Place, Civic.

Every Saturday Morning: ‘Maitland Group Saturday Social Bike Ride’

Starts: 8.00am, (8.30am winter Jun-Aug) Maitland Information Centre, High St (east). A leisurely 1 hour+ duration on selectedroutes in the surrounding urban areas finishing with a social Coffee/Breakfast afterwards at a local Café

Every Saturday Morning: "Steel River Ride"

Grade: EO; Distance: ~ one hour; Contact: Don 4944 7869. Average speed 20-25kph.
Starts at 8:00 am from Stewart Ave Railway Crossing, Newcastle West. Easy ride, suitable for those wanting a faster pace than the "Saturday Social Saunter" but slower and shorter than the "Cobweb Ride". Followed by breakfast at Juicy Beans in Wheeler Place, Civic.

Every Sunday Morning: "Lake Macquarie Rides"

Grade: OTW; Distance: 40 - 50 km; Contact: Ted - 49 582 954.
Starts at 7:00 am (8 am June / July / August) from Speers Pt Park, North Lake Macquarie. Regular ride, various routes in the Lake Macquarie area. Coffee stop.

Geriatrics Play Group

An ad hoc, disparate social group of mainly retired people whose ages range from 45 to 70 odd and enjoy riding bikes.  For more information go to their webpageTo contact the group click here  to send email.

MTB rides

Every Monday and Friday they do a MTB ride from a place that is designated by those at the previous MTB ride.  The locations can be any where from Glenrock State Recreation Area, Jesmond Park, Seahampton, Swansea Macca's, Ourimbah, Killingworth, Awaba and Lake Munmorah.  Distances can range from 20 to 60km and can be very hilly.

Bike path/road rides

Every Sunday meet at Jesmond roundabout at 8 am for a road ride to Macca's at Hexham for coffee.  Then on to Nobby's via Industrial Drive and Honeysuckle bike path. Its about 40km.

Every Wednesday meet at Energy Australia Stadium bike path intersection at 8:30am for a ride out along the bike path past Wests, Jesmond Park and through the University.  Then through Mayfield and Tighes Hill to Throsby Creek bike path, along Honeysuckle to Nobby's for coffee. Its about 40Km.

Every Friday Kenny's ride starting at 8am from the Burwood Rd crossing on the Fernleigh Track out to Whitebridge, Redhead and Belmont.  Then on to Green Point bike paths out to Valentine and Warner's Bay and up Charlestown Rd to Whitebridge for coffee. Its about 40km and is hilly through Green Point.
