2002 Games

The 2002 Aberdeen Highland Games were once again an outstanding event with about 4000 people coming from far and wide.

The first mayor activity was the huge Street Parade which was over 800 metre long with a very large variety of floats, lots of pipe bands, old cars and tractors and walkers. Crowds were thick and enjoyed the atmosphere.

The moving official opening was followed by a large program of events that proved enjoyable for spectators and provided a thrill to competitors.

Weather on the day had a very definate Scottish crispness with a strong cool breeze and rain threatening which the kilted brigade seemed to relish. Most Aussies thought it was a bit chilly to say the least! The weather certainly kept the crowds down although those who ventured out enjoyed the day.

The photos show some of the events and hopefully capture the great atmosphere.

As with last year most visitors spoken to said they would be back next year and will bring their friends with them.
