Bush Walks
A short local scenic bushwalk is recommended for working up an appetite before
breakfast. For the serious hiker or nature
lovers, over 60kms of trails meander through the adjoining State Forest. Historic sites are as much a
feature of the Hunter as are the Vineyards, with it's monuments to early beginnings. Within a short walk
of Abernethy House are the ruins of Aberdare South Colliery, which closed in 1927. Now the adjoining lake
provides a haven for nesting birdlife.
