The start of the season was repeatedly delayed due to the
continuing refusal of the Super League aligned clubs to take
part in the ARL's competition. As a result the ARL had to
abandon its proposed draw, and instead reused the 1995 draw,
with home and away games reversed. You can view the original

draws for 1996.
All of the Super League clubs except Auckland forfeited
their first round matches, the first A Grade Premiership
forfeits since 1909.
