Australian
Ch Beckabrook Hot Cayenne CDX AD JD
I
named him "Anzac" and his name comes from the fact that
I wanted an Australian name for my American dog. Anzac fitted
into the household from the word "go". Entertaining
my family with his clownish personality, he grew up thinking he
was a Golden Retriver - thanks to Pride. He is an easy dog to
live with, although he can be headstrong at times.
His
conformation title came easily, just after his first birthday
with limited showing. Anzac's achievements include Speciality
Runner Up Best in Show, Best in Group, numerous Classes in Group,
Classes in Show and four times "Best Headed" at Speciality
Shows.
He
went on to get his Novice obedience title in fine style - seven
trials, seven first places, including Winner of Winners at the
NSW Australian Shepherd Speciality.
His
Open obedience title took a little longer due to an agility injury
and a sharp learning curve for both of us. We are now working
towards his UD title.
Agility
and Jumper trials are something he really enjoys. Anzac obtained
both these Novice titles in six trials and we are now working
towards his Open titles.
Anzac's
best attribute is his wonderful nature. In 2001 he became a "Pets
as Therapy" dog with the Delta Society. He visited an aged
nursing home one day a week and then on another day would visit
the John Hunter Children's Hospital where he would work in three
wards for 2-3 hours visiting sick children. The kids loved him,
he put smiles on their faces and entertained them with his clownish
tricks , and they even taught him a few. He was instrumental in
bringing a little boy out of a coma and even if a child was in
isolation would entertain them from the doorway. It was a beautiful
thing to watch.
Unfortunately
work commitments I have in 2002 have curtailed these visits.
Anzac
is a real people dog. People are naturally drawn to him and if
they get too close they could easily end up being licked and jumped
on. He has the looks, personality, brains and a lot of love to
give. My three year wait for this dog was well worth it!
