Richard Eldridge married Sarah Cramp at Northiam, Sussex, England on 27 Nov 1790. They are thought to have had eleven children mainly baptised at Ewhurst with their 5th to 7th child baptised at Rye.
Their son John is thought to be the John Eldridge who married Elizabeth Sargent at Ewhurst on 15 May 1815. They were both shown as of that Parish. John is thought to have died before 1833 as Elizabeth Eldridge, a widow, had a bastard born child, Thomas Milyard Eldridge, on 16 Nov 1833. Elizabeth remarried on 7 Jan 1838 at Rye to William Crouch and they and her eight children are shown as assisted immigrants to New South Wales on the ship Amelia Thompson that arriving at Sydney in July 1838. Her youngest child, Thomas and Maria Baker, the wife of John, her eldest child, died on the voyage.
Their son Samuel is thought to be the Samuel Eldridge who married Phoebe Cheeseman. They are shown as the parents of George Eldridge who along with his wife and two children were assisted immigrants to Sydney, New South Wales arriving on 5 Oct 1841 on the William Turner. Samuel's great grandson Roland Eldridge enlisted in the Australian Infantry at Surry Hills, New South Wales on 13 Jan 1915. He was killed in France on 11 Nov 1916. His sister Emma Amelia was Mrs Fry living at Stepney, Adelaide, South Australia in 1928. Roland's elder brother Ernest Charles married in Ontario, Canada in 1918.
Their grandson Richard Eldridge migrated to Victoria, Australia in 1854 with his second wife Sophia.
Their great great granddaughter Florence Emily Shepherd, nee Eldridge emigrated to New Zealand in 1956. Her daughter and her family had earlier migrated to NZ in the early 1950s after initially going to Bermuda in 1949 and her son and his wife migrated to NZ in 1957.
Albert William Eldridge, a three times great grandson of Richard and Sarah, migrated to Canada with his wife and three children in 1929 on the Megantic arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 16 Apr 1929. A three times great grandson, Frederick Lauder, migrated and he married in South Australia in 1950. A three times great grandson, Charles Eric Eldridge, migrated in 1965 to Perth, Western Australia with his wife and daughter. He died on 28 Sep 1998.

Funeral report for James Eldridge, died 24 Feb 1914 in Willow Cottage, Dunkirk, Kent.
In his sermon at Dunkirk Church on Sunday morning last, the Rev CDB Somerville mentioned the
loss the church and parish had sustained by deceased’s death, he having been in the choir over
40 years and parish churchwarden for ten years. After service, Mr WH Burgess played Mendelssohn’s
Funeral March, the congregation standing.
The funeral took place on Monday at Dunkirk Church. The Vicar, (the Rev WJ Springett) was present,
but was too unwell to take the service and his place was filled by the Rev. Dr Springett,
Rector of Pluckley, who was assisted by Rev CDB Somerville. As the body was borne into the church,
the organist, Mr WH Burgess, played Chopin’s Funeral March. The choir chanted the 90th Psalm,
Dr Springett read the lesson, and the hymn, "Nearer my God to Thee" a favourite of the deceased’s
was sung. The cortege left the church to the strains of the Dead March in Saul.
Dr Springett committed the body to the ground and the Rev. CBD Somerville read the remaining prayers.
Before the Grace was said, Dr Springett said he could not go away without saying something of the
brother he had just committed to the grave. He liked to think of him as a man in three ways.
First a man, a personal friend of his (Dr Springett’s) father, a strong man, a good workman,
conscientious with an indomitable will, an Englishman. Secondly, as a sportsman, extremely
fond of cricket and a good shot with his gun. Thirdly as a Christian man, a good churchman,
a regular communicant, a zealous choirman and for the past ten years, a hardworking churchwarden.
The service concluded with the hymn "God be with you till we meet again."
The chief mourners were the widow, Messers Ted, Austen, Bob, Jesse, Tom and Steve Eldridge (sons),
Mrs Gilbert and Mrs Bridgland (daughters), Mr Peto (son-in-law), Mr F Gorham (nephew),
Mr and Miss Bridgland and Mr Edgar Ellender. There was a large congregation, amongst whom were
present; Colonel Gosset, Mr S Hall, Mr A Terry, Mr J Barnes, Mr J Yeomanson, Mr JD Steer, Mr G Harris,
Mr J Marsh, Mr G Howland etc. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by the family, Rev WJ and the Misses
Springett, the Church Choir and Choral Society, Mr F and Miss Gorham, Mr and Mrs H Gorham,
grandchildren at Southampton, Mr and Mrs Peto and grandchildren, Mr John Gurr etc.
