PGTeams event version 19,991,118

Introduction

By Ian Ladyman

This being an off year and with little funds for supporting teams overseas there may be less "personal interests over team mates" attitude.

There is lots to gain by team flying both in more pleasure during the competition, training and encouragement within the team, and a little team rivalry thrown in.

We cant expect the organisers to sponser a team category, although Godfrey is planning to at Manilla.

We have created this team event without the comp committee's 'sanction'. We didnt ask them, but they have helped us. That is how we were able to narrow in on some rules and ignore the problems of different opinions on bonus's etc. These rules are not the comp committee rules and I imagine that they would want to ensure that they remain that way for the moment.

I have volunteered to score it and will endevour to ensure that it does not interfere with the sanctioned competitions, but simply run in parrallel. If everyone likes what we have done we can give the comp committee a proposal for their next meeting. But for now it is simply an unofficial score that we can place challenges on.

I have not at this stage defined the 'intention of this event', yet I have used the term in the last rule. Some people will have different intentions for this event so rather than defining the intention, I have at this stage left it off, we can see what developes through the season. People have made different suggestions of what this event is for and this has created differences on how it should work. So lets allow everyone to enter it for whatever reason they like.

This is the final version that has been developed following discussion on our mail list but is always subject to change.

Teams event proposal 19,991,118.

1. A team of up to 5 pilots, with the best 3 scores each round contributing.

2. Bonus points table:
ReasonNamebonusexperiance (inland)gliderother
Novice:Nov1.0less than 50 hrDHV 1-2 /2 accel (not intermediate see 2d).
Intermediate:Int0.5less than 100hrDHV 2 /2-3 accel (not novice see 2d).

Everyone:Open1.0no requirements
2a. A pilots round score will be multiplied by the sum of their bonus factors to determine their 'teams event' score.

2b. Bonus factors are accumulative for each category that the pilot qualifies for.
It is possible for a Fob Novice, flying a Vintage glider to get a total bonus multiplier of 2.4.
Or a Novice Fob Fem flying a vintage glider to have their score multiplied by: (1.0 [Nov] + 0.2 [Fob] + 0.2 [Fem] + 0.2 [Vin] + 1.0 [Open] = 2.6)

2c. To qualify for a bonus category the pilot must meet all the requirements of that bonus, eg A novice of less than 50 hours must also fly a DHV 1-2 or safer glider.

2d. A pilot may not combine the novice and intermediate categories, (they must fit either the novice OR the intermediate category).

2e. A Vintage glider must be certified over 5 years before the commencement of the event. Uncertified gliders do not qualify.

3. Unlimited team member changes (But no team Name changes)

3a. Any team member changes must be declared to the 'team event official', and written onto the 'team event' member sheet at HQ at the morning briefing prior to departing for the launch.

4. Best 10 scores of each team from the 3 major Paragliding competitions contribute to the final season result.

5. Where these rules are lacking, the HGFA competition manual rules will be applied if the rule suits the intention of this event.
