Our Tornado Canberra class with 394 HP V8 driving hard across the Northern Territory Wetlands with a major tropical storm bearing in from the west.
This vessel was undergoing pre-shipment trials prior to delivery to new owner the Sultan of Brunei at his Northern Territory cattle ranch.

Flood rescue and flood relief work is our specialty.
The extreme shallow draft of all our airboat designs make them ideal as an alternative to expensive and limited aerial equipment such as helicopters etc, which are better employed in more extreme situations due to the operating costs being approximately ten times higher. Plus helicopters can not operate without a landing area, whereas an airboat can operate while powered or go on standby in un-powered mode for extended periods. Submerged obstacles will limit conventional craft as residential areas once flooded have many unexpected submerged obstructions that can interfere with the safe tasking of limited conventional craft. For flood rescue and relief operations it has been shown for over a quarter of a century that only an airboat has the speed, manoeuvrability, shallow draft capacity, a dry land capability, and massive load carrying to be a viable system.
Recent overseas major airline crashes in swamp areas have shown how important an airboat can be to traverse at high speed across the worst accessible locations and then operate in situations that no other equipment can match. Tornado designs can be trailed at high speed to the point of the emergency, thus making dispatching a relatively easy exercise and keeping operational costs to a minimum. Airboats can operate in extreme weather with little or no support infrastructure, they can be serviced for a fraction of the cost of aircraft. For flood work our airboats are designed and built for local conditions can mean the difference between life and death, yet at the same time offer an incredible budget advantage of near ten to one for the same dollar. NEWS Flash
A Tornado air boat design was commissioned by the Hawkesbury River County Council to build an airboat for weed control on the Hawkesbury river NSW Australia but it had to be very quiet for this environmentally sensitive area. Using new muffler systems and the all new low noise Powershift two blade "paddle" type propeller a noise reduction of better than 75% over regular airboat noise was achieved. This low noise combination will now be fitted to all our new air boats. This vessel was delivered in September 2001 and the operator is delighted with the results.
