children's book author Kate Walker welcomes you to her website. about kate born: 10th january 1950 in newcastle, australia started writing: in 1977 after a camper-van tour of australia with my husband roger and my daughter josie. while travelling, we couldn't carry a lot of books, so instead of reading bed-time stories to josie i started making up stories for her. i didn't know i could make up stories until then. when we came home from our travels, i started writing my stories down. and that was it! i knew straight away — i wanted to be a writer! i've been writing ever since. other jobs i've had: i didn't start writing until i was 27. before that, i tried a lot of different jobs. for a while i was a waitress, a cook, even a restaurant manager. i tried stock controlling children's books, children's book author, Kate Walker, children's book author Kate Walker
