Newcastle 1997

Toronto Workers changed their name back to Macquarie United in order to try and cash in on the 'back to the basics' feeling associated with the reunited National Premiership. It didn't work, and they dived to the bottom of the table.

The Third Grade competition was replaced by an Under-20s competition.

Sevens Tournament 1997

Played at Lyell Peacock Field Toronto on Sunday 1st March. The Newcastle Wildfires, Newcastle's first grade rugby union team, entered a team. They were knocked out in the first round by Cessnock's seconds.
