Newcastle

[1961] [1963]

The NRL moved from a districted based system to a club based one. This mean't that players no longer had to be residentially qualified to play for a club, but rather they simply had to register with the club. A system of transfers was put in place to restrict player movement.

The NRL also changed their finals system, scrapping the old right of challenge method in favour of a top four 'ladder' system.
