State Championship

Competing teams: (22) the eight Sydney teams, the ten Newcastle teams, plus teams representing Groups 7, 10, 11, and Southern Districts.

The competition was held at the end of the season, and the draw very much followed the pattern of elimination from the two premierships. Newcastle were asked to enter six teams, later reduced to four. A complicated set of playoffs followed to determine which four. Cessnock was eliminated during the playoffs after refusing to play on a Sunday, but were allowed to play anyway because they were the Newcastle premiers.

Newcastle

[1940] [1942]

The 1941 season finished relatively early so that Newcastle teams could play in the State Cup.

During the year a match was organised between a combined Northern Suburbs / Eastern Suburbs side and a team drawn from the rest of the competition, the proceeds of which were donated to the patriotic fund. Norths were considered to have the best forward pack in the competition, and Easts the best back line.

    Norths-Easts 29 beat The Rest 19
on Sunday 13th July at District Park.

South Newcastle won the club challenge and were awarded the Lloyd Memorial pennant.
