Cronulla tried to get out of paying their taxes.

After the split of April 1995, News Limited took the ARL to court to have the commitment and loyalty agreements overturned. The ARL countersued for breech of contract.

After the dust had settled, Brad Fittler and Matt Sing left Penrith to play with other clubs. Penrith sort to have them forced to honour their contracts. This was the test case to see if ARL players were required to honour their club contracts before moving to ARL clubs.

The NZRFL took out an injunction against the ARL and NSWRL to stop them from using the terms 'test', 'All Golds', 'representative team', etc. to describe a proposed series of games between an ARL team and another team of New Zealanders chosen from the ranks of ARL signed players. The injunction was granted. In a follow up submission the NZRFL asked the court to order the ARL to pay their costs, which they did.
